Avaya Leverages IT for Mobile Health Solutions
Avaya, formerly part of and AT&T (News - Alert) and Lucent Technologies, has a long history of providing communications solutions to businesses. In an exclusive interview, Sanjeev Gupta, General Manager of Avaya’s (News - Alert) Healthcare Solutions division, explains that many of Avaya’s innovations in healthcare communications were developed by leveraging existing technology. He argues that the right communication tools can make a significant impact on the life cycle of patient care, from preventative medicine to chronic care management.
The interview discusses products like Avaya’s Patient Contact Solution, which has features such as automated medicine reminders, requests for glucose monitoring data, or the ability to call patient to obtain recent blood pressure readings. Collected data can then be integrated into the patient’s electronic medical records. Other products discussed are Avaya’s Patient Discharge Solution, designed to help with automating discharge approvals and notifications, and their Mobile Device Checkout system. The Mobile Device Checkout allows nurses to scan their badge and a mobile phone; the device is automatically programmed to match their contacts lists and provide patient status alerts.
