Joint Venture to Develop Wireless Health Monitoring Devices

A “Health Journal for Pain” will be the first wireless health monitoring device offered by Meridian Health and Cypak, who just announced a new joint venture. Meridian is a New Jersey hospital and healthcare provider; Cypak is Swedish technology provider. iMPak’s mobile pain management device is “a portable, lightweight, digital, wirelessly-enabled diary” that allows patients to record pain levels before and after medication regimen, which their physicians can then access.
The device uses Cypak’s “Touch and Post” technology and Near Field Communication (NFC), an RFID based technology that enables short-distance wireless communication. Patients can touch their cell phone or a smart cable reader and their pain readings will automatically post to a back end monitoring system.
Noting that physicians often ask patients to keep pain diaries, Sandra Elliott from Meridian Health pointed out that “it is often a cumbersome process for patients, and seldom provides physicians with actionable data about the patient’s response to their prescribed treatment.” The portable format of the Health Journal for Pain is designed to improve ease of use and compliance to allow for more timely intervention by physicians.
Future product offerings from iMPak will target diabetes, depression, weight management and pulmonary conditions like asthma. Via Cypak.
