NGS Awarded $5.5M Contract for Meaningful Use Payment Processing

National Government Services Inc., a Medicare contractor based in Indianapolis, was recently awarded a five-year $5.5 million government contract for preparation and processing of EHR meaningful use incentive payments. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded the contract to NGS as part of its efforts to prepare electronic accounting and processing tools designed to authenticate, track and manage incentive payments to health care providers.

Under the contract, NGS will develop software necessary to create provider incentive payment files, prepare files to prompt payment, and track the payments. Data such as the providers’ registration, eligibility documents, and banking information will flow from the CMS National Level Repository (NLR). A NLR rules engine will calculate the provider payment amounts, verify meaningful use, check for duplicate payments and maintain the incentive payment history files. Additional provider information, such as identification numbers, banking information, and medical claims payments history will be supplied by other CMS administrative contractors.
